Comments Thread For: Ricky Hatton: Lucas Browne Can Knock Chagaev Out!

AUSTRALIAN powerhouse Lucas 'Big Daddy' Browne has been made the mandatory challenger for Ruslan Chagaev's WBA heavyweight title.

Hatton Promotions has worked hard to get Browne the correct opportunities at the correct time since signing him in 2012 and the Sydney-native's rise up the rankings has been little short of mesmeric.

In the past 12 months, Browne has won a host of titles and climbed from number 15 in the WBA's ratings to a verge of becoming his country's first ever world heavyweight champion.

Correspondence issued to Hatton Promotions from WBA chairman Gilberto Mendoza has confirmed that Chagaev's representatives now have 30 days to negotiate the fight.

Not likely. I believe Chagaev has been knocked down once by Wlad, but even Klitschko couldnīt make him stay down (RTD decision though). Povetkin and Valuev coudnīt put Chagaev down either. Fat, out of shape Chagaev might fall over from exhaustion but I donīt think that counts as a KO.

I used to like watching Chagaev around the time he beat Ruiz and Valuev, but he's faded and overweight now.

Lucas will be a better WBA titleholder and a bigger, stronger challenger for Klitschko.

He has pretty bad stamina issues though. Gassed and super slow after like 4/5 rds.

He looks to be putting in serious effort from his Twitter feed. Although training hard doesn't mean it's the right type of training

Browne is a decent bloke but he's very limited imo.

Chagaev is fat and shot. So this sentence should not have an exclamation point!

Browne is a nice guy outside the ring and quite heavy handed inside a ring. That's the good points dealt with in full. Lucas is far too slow and primitive to threaten the real top brass. He's not a bum but he's in that ball park. Chagaev was a good fighter at one time but we need binoculars to look that far back, so even though it's getting a title label no way is this a championship level match.
