  • Comments Thread For: Diaz: Pacquiao's Aggression, Speed Will Be Key To Win

Former World Boxing Council lightweight champion David Diaz, the likeable southpaw from Chicago who was battered into submission in nine rounds by Manny Pacquiao on June 28, 2008 at the Mandalay Bay Resort Hotel and Casino believes the speed of Pacquiao will be the key in beating undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Diaz should know because it was the terrific hand-speed that accentuated his punching power in a ninth round demolition of Diaz.

In an overseas telephone conversation with BoxingScene.com/Manila Standard/Viva Sports, Diaz who had won the WBC lightweight title by a twelve round unanimous decision over Erik “El Terrible” Morales on August 4, 2007 said he feels the “speed and aggressiveness of Pacquiao will be a deciding factor”

I'm sick of all this talk about Pacquiaos 'speed.' There's more to boxing than just, 'speed.' Mayweather has just as much speed as Pacquiao, the difference is that Pacquiaos speed sticks out more in people's mind because he tends to be more active with his punches.

When you break it down, no one really has a speed advantage and if one does have a speed advantage over the other, it's so small that it doesn't even make sense to consider it an advantage!

Timing beats speed anyways we all know this, and who has impeccable timing? Floyd does.

And volume of Pac can outscore the less active, but timed punches of Floyd and the perfect counter-punching of Floyd can reduce the volume of Pac so you see, just in that circular increment, anything is possible. There are enough variables to all aspects of either fighter to propel one of them to a win. History is littered with guys like Pac beating guys like Floyd and guys like Floyd beating guys like Pac, otherwise, we just have them fight on paper and declare who is the best in every division and fighters would never have to fight. No outcome of the fight would surprise me. If I woke up the next day with my head crazy-glued to the carpet, then I would be surprised.
