Comments Thread For: HBO Sports VP Wants The Best: "You Can't Fool Fans"

With the recent announcements of time-buys on ESPN2, along with boxing making its return to NBC and CBS, some wonder what is going to happen to the other networks.
Then again, some wonder what could about with the boxing industry as a whole.
These recent events could bring about some concern to a number of promoters and some network executives.

It does not seem to faze Peter Nelson, who is the Vice President of Programming for HBO Sports. A former sportswriter who has been with HBO for almost four years now, Nelson has been credited by some in the boxing industry for buying some of the best fights in 2014.

The HBO telecast was very amateuristic last night, the production was terrible.

I'll give HBO one thing. They may not have quantity but they do have quality. They have 3 fighters who are without a doubt the best in their respective divisions (Crawford, Kovalev,GGG). So they will be A OK in this new Haymon World Order.

Golovkin commands a very low price and guaranteed entertainment. If Ward was willing to get paid the way Golovkin does for lesser fighters, he'd be on HBO no problem.

Absolutely right. They are just fine as long as they can get quality opponents for these guys.

HBO has GGG and Kovalev, the 2 best bargains in boxing, maybe in boxing history. Crawford isn't expensive either.

Just take all the extra money and make a FW super 6, put on some cruiser fights, and use BAD and WCB as you should.

There is no reason cotto/canelo/GGG shouldn't fight each other this year. If cotto says no-force the GGG/Canelo fight. Force ward to fight GGG or let ward go.
