Comments Thread For: Roach: Canelo is Still My First Choice For Cotto

If Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach had his way, WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32KOs) would be facing Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (44-1-1, 32KOs) in June.

The two sides were negotiating for several weeks, but their negotiations fell apart last month. Cotto was not satisfied with the financial terms that were offered. Both fighters are now going in separate directions. Canelo is now going to face James Kirkland on a May date at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. Cotto's next opponent is unknown.

Hey, it would've been mine too. I can't blame Roach for wanting Cotto to smack the Carrot Top out of this cinnamon bun. But hey, I've seen bigger travesties.

Cotto's going to have to face the Golovkin/Murray winner this year, so why not just get it over with?!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I could see the WBC making Cotto the emeritus champion and ending his pursuit there

Then they'll still be holding the WBC "title" and say it's for a title

I disagree...Cotto-Martinez was suppose to be huge and did 315k...Canelo-Lara did 300k...canelo-angulo did more then both at 350k....then against floyd-Cotto did 1.5 while canelo did 2.2....so how is Cotto this huge draw compared to Canelo?
