Comments Thread For: Arturo Santos: I'm Positive Abner Mares Will Lose Again!

Mexican Olympian Arturo "Rey" Santos (18-4, 5KOs) is positive that he's going to make a big shocker on March 7th as part of an NBC televised tripleheader from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Santos is going to face former three division world champion Abner Mares (28-1-1, 15KOs) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The fight will be part of Al Haymon's 'Premier Boxing Champions' series.

Santos, 29-years-old, represented Mexico in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Mares is also a former Olympian who represented Mexico. The tough contender has never been stopped as a pro and lost decisions to former champions Fernando Montiel, Hozumi Hasegawa and Simpiwe Vetyeka.

Mares with Beristain was looking like the next Juan Manuel Marquez of the lightweights, now Mares gets hit too much and as much as he's one of my favorite fighters it seems that he could lose again against an elite 126 fighter

Mares just beat people with his workrate, eliminate that from him and he will lose lopsidedly.

Mares is a over achiever and just to throw this out there I dont think he will ever beat johnny ever, if they fought 100 times johnny would win 100 times.

Mares' dirtiness also played a major role in his success, not to say he isn't a good fighter. Not the subtle kind either, Mares was excessive with it.

^I agree with that 100%, neutralize his activity and he's ok at best. Jhonny will always have his number imo. But to be honest, you could say i'm biased against Mares because of how his cheating costed Agbeko a victory and then Jhonny knocking him out put a smile on my face saying, "Justice was served!"

Put a smile on my face as well and I was actually rooting for Mares. Some things I'll never be able to erase, it's still surprising to me how Mares continuously got away with fighting that dirty.

Well said, kid. Sadly reality is a completely different story that for the most part, doesn't mesh well with our idealistic lives. Although this is an absolutely disastrous fight against a no hoper and Mares' 3rd tune up since his "return", I really want Mares to win and move onto the bigger names once again. Huge fan of Abner Mares and will continue to support him win, lose or draw but he needs to step back into the mix.

I personally believe he's not fit for the Featherweight division but who knows? He is still positioned in a good place in regards to his age and there's more than enough names around to continue developing his already impressive resume.
