Comments Thread For: Oscar De La Hoya: We Felt Miguel Cotto Had Other Plans

Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya is finishing up the final touches on the junior middleweight fight between Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and James Kirkland. The HBO televised fight is targeted for May 2nd, likely at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. The fight is potentially going to move to May 9th - if Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao is finalized for Cinco De Mayo weekend.

But Kirkland was not Canelo's first choice. The popular Mexican fighter was trying to get himself in the ring with WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto.

Canela chicken out point blank cotto had other plans no he was waiting to see if floyd v.s pac happens no point to rush a fight when you will be bumped to fight in June canela had other plans that's how he got bum Kirkland so fast you were just using cotto name to force floyd to fight pac cotto is the bigger star stop lying to yourself delahoya ppl don't even know his name only Mexicans do and hardcover fans cotto is the bigger paper view draw and if he chooses to fight Floyd it's a bigger fight then fighting canela and makes more money and sense canela brings nothing to the table floyd brings belts and a lot of money what does Kirkland bring nothing

He did have other plans. Finish off May hanging out in Puerto Rico with his fat disgusting boyfriend just long enough to duck Alvarez. Then he'll fight in June in the midst of that piss poor parade in NYC against some bum. He ducked GGG and Alvarez. He's a sorry sack of ****. A journeyman.

Miguel offers more in terms of history and legacy. Floyd already is the highest paid athlete im pretty sure he doesnt consider Manny a big threat, with Miguel he gets a chance at adding another Lineal championship and holding 3 Lineal championshiops at the same time WW, jr Mid, and Middle at the same time and thats worth more than having to deal with a rival promoter trying to drag your name through the mud, he can get back at Arum and Pac because pac is the one who owes over 70+Million so if pac doesnt want to go to jail for retirement, he better tell Arum to stop playing. Cotto does more for Floyds legacy, if he boxes and beats pac like most people believe he will it really does nothing for him, besides make him richer. legacy or money ? :****you:

Cotto has no excuse. He has only a few fights left. If he is the middleweight champion of the world , he fights GGG and Canelo, with NYC fights against Quillin and Lee thrown in. Then he can go promote.

Duh, its no mystery that he might get the phone call. Also how many ppl are standing by for a Pac fight also.

Any plan B for any of those two guys is a really nice payday.

How the hell is beating cotto AGAIN,more impressive than beating the second best fighter of the world?Mayweather could give two ****s about legacy and belts, since all he cares about is money. Let's not forget when he threatened to vacate the belt, when the wbc made Pacquiao his mandatory. Max he could get against cotto,is around 32 million, while he'd be taking home at least 100 million with Pacquiao. On top of that,if he beats Pacquiao, he'd have proven that he really is tbe,and the true p4p king. But sure, justify him ducking Pacquiao, and taking the easy way out,its not like we've never seen him do that before.

Cotto was not gonna fight may 9th if floyd vs pac happened. Anybody that thinks that is a complete idiot.

Cotto was waiting to see if the floyd-pac fight happens. If it didn't happen, he would most likely fight in june in msg. He doesn't care about cinco de mayo like canelo does. I just don't see how thats so hard to understand. Now canelo will fight may 9th
