Comments Thread For: De La Hoya Talks Canelo-Kirkland Date, Venue, Plan B

So when a date is finally nailed down for the fight between Saul Alvarez and James Kirkland in May, will it take place in San Antonio, at the Alamodome as has been reported?

Oscar De La Hoya, the head of Golden Boy Promotions, is targeting May 2nd as part of Cinco De Mayo weekend, but there are still ongoing negotiations between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao to fight on the same date. The Alamodome in San Antonio is a frontrunner, but that could change depending on the exact date of the fight. If Mayweather-Pacquiao is finalized, then Canelo-Kirkland would move up a week to May 9th.

They should have just made this fight at the full 160. They're both going to struggle big time to get down to 155.

Ahh, such fond memories of the Alvarez-Trout fight. An interesting time of my life, interesting fight on paper, and exciting as hell when it actually happened (I wasn't there live, but when I watched a great cap from the Trading Block, I was majorly pumped). Still one of my favourite fights of 2013.

I don't have as high expectations of this fight, because Kirkland has been in trouble way too many times, but it's still a good scrap on paper. The first few rounds could be very explosive and action-packed until Alvarez finds his groove and knocks Kirkland out.

Hey Man - the Canelo-Trout fight was less than 2 years ago...you make it sound like it took place in ancient days of yore, when you were just knee-high to a duck.
