Comments Thread For: De La Hoya is Still Interested in Making Cotto-Canelo

Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya is still very interested in making a fight between WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico and Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.

De La Hoya, who promotes Canelo, had tried to make the fight for May 2nd, with both sides unable to reach an agreement on the financial terms. Canelo is now scheduled to fight James Kirkland on the same May date.

If Canelo comes through with Kirkland, then De La Hoya is willing to attempt another round of negotiations with Team Cotto.

de la hoya had no control in the negotiations. alvared screwed it up by thinking that he was the A-side when cotto is the champion and more accomplished fighter. hopefully alvared will calm down and do the right thing. plus he needs cotto so he can continue to duck GGG.

The Kirkland fight aint even official yet....just a strongarm attempt to force cotto's hand, like canelo fighting on regular hbo gives him any type of hand at all in cotto negotiations .....

I added the bolded since they are also must see fights.

Promoters(Arum/De La Hoya), networks(HBO/Showtime), sponsors(Corona/Tecate), managers(Al Haymon/James Prince/Cameron Dunkin), egos(Arum/Mayweather/Canelo/Cotto/Haymon), narcissism(Arum/Mayweather Jr./Canelo/Cotto/Pacquiao/Koncz/Roach/Mayweather Sr.), cognitive dissonance(Pac****s mainly lol), etc... will always be impediments to seeing the best fights possible in boxing unfortunately.
