Former world champion and promoter Jesse James Leija is hoping that Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez vs. James Kirkland lands on May 2nd at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas - where, he said, could summon 65,000 fans. Leija's promotional company promotes shows in San Antonio and works closely with Golden Boy Promotions, who have Canelo.

The fight is being targeted for that date and venue, but they are waiting to see what happens with Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao negotiations for May 2nd. If the fight gets made for that date, then Canelo-Kirkland moves to May 9th on HBO.

I highly doubt that it gets that much but it would be great so see a big crowd hopefully a week after Mayweather-Pacquiao to continue the momentum for boxing.

I will to my utmost to attend if it takes place in the Alamodome and finals are not too rough. Guaranteed to be an entertaining fight, and while I will be rooting for Canelo, I have no problems with Kirkland winning, he is a beast. No way in hell it draws 65,000 people though.

canelo 1 and 2 in his last 3 fights...drawing 65k...they hype train continues baby...i'm watching i know that much..if kirkland does not come to fight this is another black eye for canelo..u have to keep him away from vegas...he lost to floyd and lara there and got boo'd for stopping the angulo fight too early for the fans liking..

one website reported today that they got in contact with kirklands manager

his comment was that if he was a betting man he'd bet on wolfe bein in the corner..
If i was a betting man i'd bet that there are more deserving fighters out there regardless of his trainer...
this many has taken floyd mayweather type breaks in boxing but has never been at the top of the sport...i cant accept that

bernard hopkins has fought at least once each year since 1990...james kirkland ought to be ashamed of his breaks over and over again..god forbid he wins a title (btw canelo does not have a title to his name..) i'd bet him losing it to inactivity if they gave me odds on it

Canelo is a B plus fighter...floyd took his A+ and made it into an A-...the lara fight triggerd B+ for me and made Lara an A-
