Andy Lee captured the vacant WBO middlweight title on December with a six-round stoppage of Matt Korobov in Las Vegas. His mandatory challenger is the undefeated Billy Joe Saunders from the UK. But there are rumors that Lee could instead be facing Peter Quillin, who infamously vacated this very same belt and turning down a career-high payday of $1.4 million to face Korobov.

When asked bout this situation, Lee's stateside promoter, Lou DiBella, told BoxingScene.com, "It should resolve itself within the next 48 hours. I'm just waiting on final details with the Billy Joe Saunders people." [Click Here To Read More]

I assume they took the step aside since Frank Warren bothered bidding for the EBU belt.

Well in defense of the WBO, Saunders had his chance for an immediate shot at Korobov, but opted stay with the Eubanks fight after Andrade ducked out.

Wow, if Haymon's able to lock down the WBO & IBF titles, just who & what does Golovkin fight? Imagine if Gary Shaw takes his guys to Haymon, GGG wouldn't even be able to land Tureano Johnson.

IBF might be free. Saunders sticking with the WBO and Quillin evidently fighting for it. Lemeuix will be tied up, presumably, and that leaves a cake win.

N'dam was close to winning though so he might opt for Quillin if he wins to try and get revenge.... GGG might hard press and cut the same amount of money for each though.

Lee will make allot more money fighting Quillin in NY than he would fighting Saunders in Dublin. The fight is also close to St Patricks Day which is a huge event in the city. There will be no problem selling out an arena with Irish fans who will come to see Andy Lee.

The bigger picture is Lee could unify with Cotto or Golovkin for more money & a better legacy than giving it right back to Quillin. How the WBO could even sanction this is beyond me, the guy went to a purse bid and refused to defend his belt. How the hell can they justify giving Peter a shot months later?
