Comments Thread For: Abel Sanchez Wants To See Velez Fight Mares, Gonzalez

LOS ANGELES -- Jayson Velez surprised everyone by fighting Evgeny Gradovich to a draw.

Sure, most observers believed “The Mexican Russian” deserved the nod, but Velez still fought a great fight, especially over the first half.

On the heels of his breakout performance, Velez (22-0-1, 16 KOs) is in line for some more notable matchups in the loaded 126-pound weight class. However, Velez’s trainer Abel Sanchez isn’t going to let the 26-year-old bite off more than he can chew.

Velez looked like a fighter who just needs work experience. He should have a bright future, very exciting fighter to watch..

I can respect that... calling it like he sees it. Dudes matched to soft usually drown (e.g. Russell). I hope Velez can become Abel's next GGG.

It was interesting how he views Mares, in relation to Walters and Loma.

That L really dropped his stock

Velez taxes that ass. Mares is done as a top fighter.

This is exactly the kind of fight Velez needs to make a huge splash in 2015.
