Comments Thread For: Team Lemieux Clarifies Current Promotional Status

Roc Nation Sports made headlines throughout the week for the number of boxers the rookie promotional company has added to its stable. In an unrelated development, Golden Boy Promotions’ news entries late in the week centered around the alarming amount of talent it was forced to drop.

As it pertains to power punching free agent David Lemieux, Roc Nation was finally beaten to the punch.

Less than a day after it was announced that Lemieux had allowed his promotional deal with Groupe Yvon Michel (GYM Promotions) to expire, the vultures immediately began to circle. Roc Nation was already making its move minutes after the conclusion of its inaugural show in New York City, but proved to be late to the party.

Good for David resurrecting his career after back to back losses. Now getting a new deal, made it to HBO, and ready for big fights.

What a difference between this dude (non-Haymon's fighter) and the coward Quillen, this dude trying to fight the best out there and the LSC, Garcia, PEDerson fighting tomato cans and specially Quillen refusing 1.7 mill vs the russian dude is so insulting to true boxing fans.

      Waaaaar Lemieux!!!

This fool should sign with Roc Nation, they've got a brighter future than Golden Boy.

Lemieux is not champ material, but he is Must See TV. Could you imagine him vs Tureano Johnson in a fight? It would be downright crazy

              Lemieux vs Johnson
              Lemieux vs Stevens
              Lemieux vs GGG
              Lemieux vs Lee
              Lemieux vs Kirkland

Lots of fun fights out there.

I'm looking at a couple of different factors. Roc Nation was able to bring out 4,200 for a show that had zero quality big name fights. After looking at some of the sponsorship money they were able to bring in, it's not your usual boxing sponsorship dollars. They already displayed that they're willing to spend the money to build a strong hold in the business. Combine they're willingness to spend and all the new and old money that they can bring in, and it's clear that they will only rise. Who knows, we can look at the numbers after next week's card that they're putting on in Connecticut.

As for Golden Boy, they lost most of they're leadership this year when Schaefer jumped ship. Now they're parting ways with Haymon which has been their bread and butter. Oscar is banking on building a relationship with Bob Arum and I don't believe that can be done. Beyond the Haymon stable that he's been using, I don't think he has that great of fighters going into the future.

So looking at it, I just don't think Golden Boy has the money to compete with Roc Nation. I also think that Roc Nation will spend they're way into the big names as they did with Ward. In the end, new money always replaces old money.

Roc Nation is going to have a lot of money pushed their way. Here's an example.
