Comments Thread For: Andre Ward: Right Now Move To 175 Don't Make Sense

WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward (27-0, 14KOs) is not looking to move up in weight for the moment, although it might be an option for the future. Ward intends to return to the ring on a date in late March or early April and plans to do so at 168-pounds.

The light heavyweight division is red hot right now, with Sergey Kovalev, Adonis Stevenson, Jean Pascal, Lucian Bute, Bernard Hiopkins and Artur Beterbiev in the mix.

Ward has maintained his position from Day 1. He is a SMW until his body can't make the weight, at which point he will go to LHW. GGG claimed he is willing to take on any challenger from 154-168. The only guy with any sort of name that is willing to fight GGG from those weights is Andre Ward.

Ward-GGG should get it on in the fall/winter of 2015.

this is the effect of Mayweather. Ducking competition to preserve that 0 and to retain his marketability.

Ward has the chance to be great in the light heavy but he is playing it safe. I was a fan of Ward but not anymore

Roc Nation seems to have deep pockets. I think they are going to target GGG this year. That's the fight Ward wants. I can see Roc Nation making a Quillin type offer to GGG. The pressure is going to be on GGG and I can't wait to be on this site when it happens.

                Staying at 168?

Translates to, after all the clucking dies down, I don't want to get me a-s-s handed to me at 175 by Kovalev and the rest of the top guys there! Ward is about as exciting in the ring as pulling up a chair to watch paint dry on a very humid summer evening! Dude grow a pair, leave Oakland for once and fight someone with a pulse! Not some weight drained Dawson dropping down, stop calling out a Middleweight in GGG cuz as you just stated and I quote "I'm not ready for 175 my body has to grow into it"! So why you want a guy who fights at 160 to jump to face you although I think that GGG would be one of the guys that could starch you also, if he makes the move up. At least GGG is more entertaining to watch and he'll fight anywhere unlike Mr. I'm the champ and I wanna fight in Oakland only so I can get a home-cooked boring ass decision. When was the last time Ward legitimately knocked someone out and spare me with Dawson's weight drained a-s-s.

This guy said he will move up years ago. What's left for him at SMW? Nothing.

                  Move up already FFS.
