Comments Thread For: Omar Narvaez Praises Inoue, Plans To Continue Career

Former world champion Omar Narvaez (43-2-2, 23KOs) of Argentina, 39-years-old, is still motivated to continue his career and to capture another major title. Last week in Japan, Narvaez's long reign as WBO super flyweight champion came to an end when young Japanese sensation Naoya Inoue (8-0, 7KOs) knocked him out in two rounds.

Plans to continue career by fighting in Argentina against cans to be an overhyped win for another up and coming or young fighter.

Didn't after he lost to Donaire he went back down and was basically like, "that's not my weight so I didn't try very hard." You know he got his ass whooped this time.

Narvaez can still beat everyone else at 115.

I highly doubt it. Carlos Cuadras, Zolani Tete, Srisaket Sor Rungvisai, Ryo Matsumoto, McJoe Arroyo would all give him a run for his money. Don't get me wrong Narvaez has fought some decent names, but has lost once he stepped up to the elite fighters of the sport. The Zeletas, Orucutas and Sedas of the division will always be there for the picking, I just think his run at the top of the sport was left on the canvas in Japan.

We'll see. He'll probably get a decent ranking from the other orgs when they update their lists. He's one eliminator away from getting a mando spot. Wouldn't surprise me if he gets a title shot in the second half of the year.

Honestly, I've probably only seen one or two fights max of 5 or so of the other top 10 contenders. The other champs in particular don't really stand out to me. Narvaez is looked good in his last fight before Inoue so it's not like he's shot.

There's a bit of cognitive dissonance going on in people who are hyping a Narvaez win enough to crown Inoue fighter and the year, yet not have enough interest in Narvaez to care about what he does next. (or even have any interest at all in Narvaez before Inoue-Narvaez was announced)

To be honest I think it's due to the fact that Narvaez is on his way out and Inoue is fresh and new on the scene. Narvaez is a great name on any young fighter's resume and the manner in which Naoya dethroned him was primarily what garnered so much attention and hype. Anyway best of luck to Omar.

Narvaez has always been a superb boxer, but he seemed small, even as a flyweight. He'll also turn 40 this year and I can't remember anyone that age winning a title fight at the lower weights. Good win for Inoue, and good luck to Narvaez if he decides to continue.
