Comments Thread For: Kameda Says McDonnell Unification is Up Next

WBO bantamweight champion Tomoki Kameda (31-0, 19KOs) has been told by his adviser, Al Haymon, that a unification with WBA champion Jamie McDonnell (25-2-1, 12KOs) is up next in 2015.

Kameda made two defenses of his title in 2014. McDonnell captured the vacant belt in May with a tenth round TKO of Tabtimdaeng Na Rachawat and then retained the title in November with a decision win over Javier Chacon. Kameda was last seen in November, winning a twelve round decision win over mandatory challenger Alejandro Hernandez.

This is not a unification. Tamayo is the real WBA bantamweight champion.

Two phony belts, but would be an interesting fight. I don't hear Kameda asking for Yamanaka. LOL

Payano actually holds the WBA title. Tommy vs Yam won't happen until Tom's allowed to fight in Japan again.

Don't hate on Jamie. He got the IBF belt legit but was stripped of it for pretty much no reason.

If they aren't willing to fight Yamanaka, it's another second-tier fight. Both just holding onto paper alphabet belts

WBO champ Tomoki Kameda could out point WBA regular titleholder Jamie McDonnell.
Then Tomoki could either fight IBF Champ Randy Caballero or WBA super champ Juan Carlos Payano in the United States if he can beat the title holders at 118lbs then he can save the best fight for last in an all Japanese showdown for the undisputed championship against ring #1/WBC kingpin Shinsuke Yamanaka.

What gripes me is the fact that Lee Haskins isn't in the equation. If anyone deserves a title shot it's him!
