  • Comments Thread For: Sulaiman: Unifications Needed For The Good of The Sport

    After years of refusing to perform title unifications with other organizations, World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman recognized that unifications are needed for the sake of boxing.

    Sulaiman feels that after a fighter cleans out his division, new challenges will be needed. The WBC President pointed out super bantamweight champion Leo Santa Cruz, welterweight and super welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather and bantamweight champion Shinsuke Yamanaka as examples of where title unifications should take place in the near future.

      They've placed Golovkin in a position to unify with their belt, their giving Kovalev the same chance against Pascal. I really hope the WBC continues and is consistent with this new policy.

          Wasn't a big fan of this kid's dad, but it appears he may possibly be sincere with his intentions for the sport. His corrupt father was the exact opposite. Let's hope he keeps this up.

            Remember the days when Alvarez was told he couldn't unify with Trout and Andre Ward was stripped of the WBC because he wouldn't decide which belt he was going to keep?

            Now we have Gilberto & Jose playing like a couple of giggly kids with you know who in between;

                I'd like to believe they're doing it for the good of the sport, but the orgo fucked up so many times.... that I just doubt it.
                We'll see if this is for the good of the sport or for sanctioning fees
