Explosive WBC -interim-middleweight champion, Gennady Golovkin (31-0, 28KOs), is visiting Mexico to get a proper belting. The presentation of the fabled and coveted green and gold accolade comes after he conquered the interim title, defeating Marco Antonio Rubio in Carson, California in two electric rounds in October.

This Tuesday, the 9th of December at 10:30 am, “GGG” will be the Polar Star at a Press Conference in the Camino Real Hotel in Polanco, Mexico City.

I like GGG, but come on....

This is just to get their hand in on the GGG pie and have him pay them as a titlist

I can understand the motives of the WBC because it is all about the money. But, why in the world would GGG bother with a belt that means absolutely nothing??

GGG and Mexican fans, my spin....

I think GGG is making a calculated career move that will pay dividends down the road...... 2 obvious reasons.

1.) No one can dispute the fact that the majority of Mexican fight fans love to see their Warriors display Heart and Soul culminating in a Knockout ! That is what GGG brings to the table every fight everywhere he fights.....

2.) I think GGG is courting the Mexican fans, particularly in southern California, for a inevitable matchup with Andre Ward..... Ward only draws in Oakland and if GGG can put Mexican fans in those seat it will help his cause......

If GGG can get Ward to fight somewhere else in southern California and stay out of Oakland then GGG might actually have the crowd overwhelming in his favor.

GGG's style was modelled on Chavez Sr, by Abel Sanchez' admission. He's been courting Mexican fans for the past three years, and his fight with Rubio puts into question why K2 wanted to build him in New York at all. So it's a good move to get some claim to a portion of the WBC belt.

I think we are at a breaking point of sorts where GGG will start catching up to the stars around the middleweight division. Ward is firmly out of the picture for now, but the fact that Froch-Jr is still considered a bigger fight than Froch-GGG is nothing short of ridiculous. Jr lost a one sided fight to Martinez and had two decisions against Brian Vera, one of which he was given as a gift. Compare that with the string of performances GGG has been producing... Canelo's loss to Mayweather, stoppage of shopworn Angulo and decision over Lara do not compare well to GGG's run either. If I was a Mexican fan I'd adopt GGG, since my own fighters are not giving me much love at the moment.
