Comments Thread For: Hearn Wants Groves-DeGale Rematch For Next Spring

Promoter Eddie Hearn is looking to stage a rematch between super middleweight rivals James DeGale (20-1, 14KOs) and George Groves (21-2, 16KOs) in 2015. They faced off at the O2 Arena in May of 2011, with Groves winning a close twelve round majority decision. DeGale, an Olympic gold medal winner, was favored to win that fight.

Yea, why not. It's been a decent amount of time (about as long as the gap between Benn-Eubank I and II) and the rivalry is about to flare up massively again, so let's make it happen. I won't listen to a single syllable of build-up, but I'll definitely watch the fight.

It'd be better if a world title(s) is on the line, though. There's no way Groves beats Dirrell for the WBC, so how does he get a shot at the (soon to be vacant) IBF for which DeGale is rightfully the mandatory? I don't see how Hearn can manoeuvre that.

I think, ultimately, Hearn is trying to keep both Degale and Froch happy

There would be no title. By the sounds of it Hearn doesn't want to put DeGale in with Andre Dirrell when he can make a huge domestic fight instead. Sauerland would have to agree however, they promote Groves.

One incentive might be Froch, who said he would fight the Groves-DeGale II winner.

Wouldnt take it if i were George. Think he needs a bit of time after the Froch series. The physical and emotional burden of those two fights was huge. Hasn't looked like his former self since.

Groves hasn't looked right at all. Now's the time for DeGale.
