  • Comments Thread For: Team Canelo Not Worried About Mayweather-Cotto Talk

This past Saturday night, Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (44-1-1, 31KOs) was in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato to support his older brother, Ramon Alvarez, who scored a knockout victory over former champion "Vicious" Vivian Harris.

There have been several reports in the United States that influential manager Al Haymon is making moves to secure WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto for a rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr. for May of next year, and in turn it would crush any immediate plans for a Canelo-Cotto showdown.

I hope Mayweather is really not considering this. I mean Cotto is a caliber opponent and nonetheless I would like to see this fight happen BUT NOT NOW! Both Pacquiao and Mayweather have to fight each other before considering any other fight. Both are free to negotiate a fight. If these promoters agree to any of these guys fighting someone else, they will be the ones to blame. Floyd/Pac have to know what's at stake here. Damn shame if they don't make it happen now while the train is yet again at full speed.

Cotto and Canelo are already deep into negotiations, best believe they're going to fight on Cinco de Mayo weekend. The only way that doesn't happen is if Floyd suddenly grows a pair of balls and fights Manny but we all know that's not going to happen.

If the Cotto-Canelo fight materialises, Mayweather will be sidelined and would have to fight Manny to get comparable numbers. So Mayweather now tries to steal Cotto away from Canelo to avoid Pacquiao.

I do agree that the only fight Mayweather should be focusing on is making a Pacquioa fight.

But Cotto is the lineal MW champ of the world, you guys talk down on anyone as long as it can make Mayweather look like a duck.

I would love to see a rematch between these two... after Floyd fights pac tho. I think Cotto has a greater chance of winning with Freddie on his side.
