Comments Thread For: Provodnikov's Return Possible For March 28th, HBO

Last Friday night in Moscow, former champion Ruslan Provodnikov (24-3, 17 KOs) battered 40-year-old veteran Jose Luis Castillo (66-13-1, 57 KOs) for a fifth round stoppage. Castillo, a former WBC lightweight champion, was broken down round after round until he went down twice in the fifth and the fight was wisely waved off by the referee.

According to his promoter Artie Pelullo, who spoke with Russian media outlets following the contest, Provodnikov's next fight will take place in the United States and back on American network television. The current target date if March 28th on HBO.

Matthysse has more power than Provodnikov so he would most likely be able to take his punches.

I hope they match him up with Swift or the Machine at 140.

Ruslan is what he is. An extremely limited slugger. A Matthysse fight would do wonders for him. A Danny Garcia fight would make him look D-class.

What's with Bob and now Artie calling out Haymon's fighters for an HBO fight? Don't they know he has a master plan that's going into full effect starting next year with NBC? Haymon's not risking his fighters to be on HBO or help out Arum. I imagine with Quillin's new acting role, Haymon will transition all his fighters to be part time actors in between fighting Rob Salka. And that'll be a build up to Haymon's own version of 'Cats'.

That said, I would pay to see Provodnikov-Matthysse in nuclear warfare.

Matthysse Provodnikov is still potentially the greatest fight of the decade. I hope it happens. I think its the kind of fight that puts mileage on both of them regardless of the winner.
