James DeGale admits he sees his fight against Marco Antonio Periban as a stepping stone to a shot at the world title next year.

The Londoner is ranked as the No 1 challenger in the International Boxing Federation's ranking, and is due to face the Mexican in Liverpool on November 22, live on Sky Sports Box Office.

DeGale also revealed his professional goal was to become the first British Olympic gold medallist to win a world title, after claiming gold in 2008 in Beijing.

Don't think he would get a chance at Froch, he probably has one or two fight left, he has already fought his younger domestic rival twice. Degale would have to make his own history by himself.

There's just no point. Groves beat DeGale then Froch beat Groves twice.

Froch is unlikely to make his final fight a routine defense.
