Comments Thread For: Kovalev the Real Deal, Guy to Beat at 175, Hopkins Says

Bernard Hopkins was one of the three top light heavyweights, and he had his choice of opponent between the other two: lineal champion Adonis Stevenson and titleholder Sergey Kovalev. Now that Hopkins has fought and lost a shutout to Kovalev, he had high praise for Kovalev’s position in the 175-pound division.

Damn kovalev got the blessing from Bhop. To think people here were talking about kovalev like he was another pavlik.

Anyway I've always believed that kovalev was special and more than just a puncher. Dude picks his shots well and for a puncher he rarely ever smothers his punches keeping guys on the end of his fast, straight and powerful shots. Scary dude to fight, really scary if you know boxing.

Because in all the other losses he truly believed either he won or he was the better fighter. Not last night though. I think he honestly believes Kovalev was the best fighter he's ever fought or second best so he respects him. I think Kovalev showed aspects to his game that Hopkins didn'tbbelieve he had and that he was a lot smarter of a fighter as well than he probably thought.

Props to Bernard Hopkins for being a good sport and giving fair credit to Kovalev.

Hopkins and Kovalev did their part to make boxing interesting and exciting, so watching the fight was time well spent. Also, I have to believe that Sergey gained valuable experience and earned the respect of many boxing fans who now may well be genuine Sergey Kovalev fans.
