Comments Thread For: Hopkins: Too Soon to Ask About Me Fighting Again

Given that Bernard Hopkins had just gone 12 rounds with the hard-punching Sergey Kovalev, taking heavy shots, getting knocked down once and losing a shutout decision, it was premature to ask him about returning to the ring once more.

Never mind that he’s nearly 50 years old in a sport where fighters tend to be retired at least a decade sooner.

But the question was asked, and the names of middleweight titleholder Gennady Golovkin and 168-pounder Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. were floated.

I would love to see him against Stevenson, I truly believe he can beat him. I would root HARD for Hopkins in that one.

Anyhow, whatever the decision, your legacy is cemented brother. You have the respect from the sport and its fans. If last night was your last fight, you left with one hell of a statement to the BS politics of this sport. You have shown that if there is a will, there is a way. Floyd Mayweather, you are a piece of ****. Sorry, I had to say it.

Who the hell were the boneheaded reporters asking a 50 year old man who just took a bad beating about his next fight?

Tasteless... Wow. Can you at least give the man 24 hours to relax before asking him if he's going to fight another hard puncher. Wtf

With that said. I think even 50 year old Hopkins beats Stevenson. But I do not want to see that because that's Kovalev's belt. I hope Kovalev gets Adonis or Pascal next.

He should retire. His legacy is cemented. It will be hard to top what bhop has done at 49 years old. Personally I don't want him to give stevenson a payday and a opportunity to get a win over bernard as Adonis does not deserve it for avoiding kovalev.

unmatched discipline . extraordinary mental strength

match him with julio cesar chavez which is a very winnable fight so he can go out on a win in a big ppv fight .

bernard doesnt have his legs like he used to, cant dance around the ring.

jcc isn't that mobile or athletic but he did show movement vs vera

that would be a fight between a disciplined athlete and an undisciplined athlete

i think bernard really wants to fight at the age of 50, if anybody matches him with golovkin or stevenson, ****m richardson should rethink that, he wouldnt beat either

its not hopkins' style to not fight the best out there

having said that, retirement is best option

He should retire. He looked really weak in there against Kovalev and he clearly can't pull the trigger like he used to. The only way I see a comeback for him is if Stevenson chokes against whatever bum they're lining up for him and he can snatch a title that way. I don't see Hopkins beating Stevenson
