  • Comments Thread For: Farenas Looking Good in Sparring For Jose Pedraza

Hard-hitting southpaw Michael Farenas sparred six rounds at Freddie Roach’s Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles yesterday under the watchful eye of trainer Carl Penalosa , former two division world champion Gerry Penalosa and strength and conditioning coach Jay San Pedro.

Gerry Penalosa told BoxingScene.com/Manila Standard/Viva Sports that Farenas sparred six rounds against Jesus “Speedy” Gonzales who sometimes serves as a sparring partner of “Fighter of the Decade” Manny Pacquiao, and tough undefeated Chinese fighter LK Yang.

This is one of those solid 50/50 fights or a lean towards Farenas if anyone has the edge on paper or in the bookings. This is the guy who had Gamboa seriously hurt (not just flash knockdowns like what happens with Gamboa) but seriously in trouble a number of times so Farenas has shown he can compete at the highest level for the most part. We have to see if Pedraza can excel at the same level and if so, he has a solid future. The winner and maybe even the loser will still have many opportunities in the sport.

These two guys are what I like most about Boxing - not like the repetitive buildup cards where prospects and contenders take the easy street, many of them lately, where every fight on a card is a ridiculous setup. These two quality fighters are locking horns instead of going down the gravy train crap road.

I don't understand the lack of interest, maybe the winner should fight Floyd. Floyd floyd floyd. This is a nice matchup, the hometown edge might not be enough for Pedraza, but amaller fighters age quicker, 33 is an old featherweight. Farenas can **** and Pedroza is no Yuri. Lot of maybes and what ifs in this fight. I like it.

I have to pick Farenas on this one. You can't count him out even when hurt. I am not sold on Pedraza!

Good obs on Pedraza and I see him improving each time out. He's still some raw, but his performance gets better on demand. Gold in the wild look like a rock, you have to pick it up and rub it on your pants. Pedraza might be that and Farenas will know he was in a fight if nothing else.
