UIC Pavilion, Chicago - Undefeated super featherweight contender Javier Fortuna scored a one-punch fifth round knockout of Abner Cotto in a dirty, foul-filled affair.

Both fighters were deducted points – Cotto for low blows and punching to the back of the head and Fortuna for punching after the bell. The first penalty was in the second, where Cotto threw two punches to the back of Fortuna’s head which the referee called a knockdown but simultaneously deducted a point against Cotto (18-3, 8 KOs), who was then penalized for low blows in the fourth.

It's a decent fight for Garcia at 130-35, but Fortuna had a draw with a cab driver... that still sticks with me... but I think it's a decent fight on an undercard HBO show...

So, you think Luis Franco is a cab driver? Ok...no point in saying anything else.

Anyhow, as to this fight I still don't like Fortuna's chances. He seems to be like a roller coaster...one fight he seems more poised and less wild and then the next he is like a loose canon. I don't know that's going to work with Garcia. I see Garcia letting him take all the shots he wants bringing him to the later rounds and then bringing it to him when he is worn out. He needs to take shots that are smart and not waste all that energy even it's clear that the punches are landing on his opponents gloves. Fortuna needs a better trainer....I think Roach would do a good job with him.

I just think he needs to learn how to keep his composure, that to me seems to be his biggest flaw, too hot headed as well. That's what messes with his conditioning too. That said, I like Fortuna but he ain't fuckin' with Mickey Garcia. Garcia takes him out in the mid rounds.
