Comments Thread For: De La Hoya: Mayweather-Golovkin Will NEVER Happen!

Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya had a good laugh when BoxingScene asked him about the possibility of a future fight between Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr. (47-0, 26KOs) and Gennady "GGG" Golovkin (31-0, 28KOs).

Mayweather is the WBC/WBA champion at welterweight and junior middleweight. Golovkin holds the WBA/IBO/WBC-interim titles at middleweight. Golovkin is willing to drop down to 154-pounds if a fight with Mayweather is ever presented.

Oscar has learned from hanging with Arum to use Floyd's name to promote his most valuable fighter...I do like Nelo's heart, but I don't know how long Oscar is going to be able to sell him as some sort of great fighter when he's not...He's already fighting at 160, just not against other 160 pounders so save the "when he gets older and moves to 160"......As a matter of fact I'm sure Canelo himself would fight GGG now, but Oscar has NO plans of stepping to 160 until GGG leaves....

And neither should Mayweather v ggg happen. I saw Mayweather up close at the Mayweather v Marquez autograph signing and that dude is as little as my 16 yr old. And he's a buck 40. What should happen is ggg v Andre Ward. But ggg doesn't want any part of Ward and I can understand why. Ward is 3x better than anyone ggg has fought.

Ward doesn't even fight anymore. Wasn't he supposed to move to LHW after he cleaned out 168? What happened?

Ward didn't want to fight Stevenson SMH.

he stopped being complacent with a contract that was going to keep him at the top level on hbo, but wouldn't get him to ppv. he made his own bed.

it's not a matter of "ducking fighters" for andre ward. it's about the ****** decisions he made with the contracts he signed with goossen.

personally, i thought goossen did a very good job with ward. he got him into the SS with home field until the final. he got him a lot of money to fight on hbo, including 2 million against edwin freaking rodriguez.

ward's talent warrants ppv, but that's not what sells ppv. it's stuff outside of the ring that generally sells the ppv. ethnicities, geography, holidays, casual fans, marketing. ward doesn't have much of that.

i don't understand what this comment is supposed to do.

imply that golovkin isn't willing to fight great fighters?
