  • Comments Thread For: Gonzalez Hopes WBC Allows Donaire or Walters Next

WBC featherweight champion Jhonny Gonzalez (57-8, 48KOs) will be ringside tonight at the StubHub Center in Carson, California - when Nonito Donaire and Nicholas Walters will battle for WBA's version of the 126-pound crown.

Gonzalez, who reclaimed his WBC title at the very same venue last August when he stopped Abner Mares in the first round of action, is hoping the World Boxing Council will allow him to push back any mandatory obligation in order to face the Donaire-Walters winner next.

Think he's non-Haymon, but promoted by Oswaldo Kuchle

I think he's got a good chance against both. He seems to have gotten a second wind for his career. Walters is wide open and defensively irresponsible and Donaire waits too much.

50/50 if either fight gets made.

I hope Gonzalez vs Walters happens early next year, that is one of the best fights that can be made at 126. Two tall fighters with KO power with reach should be a 50/50 fight.

From what I've gathered, watching Spanish interviews with Johnny, it appears he's fighting Gary Russel Jr. next and then he believes he'll take on Walters should he get past TBA Slayer. The thing is, isn't GRJ a Haymon fighter? How does Gonzalez plan of fighting him and then fighting an Arum guy?

Oh my gawd. Jhonny vs Walters? That's a lot of heavy artillery in a small space. Grenande wars.
