Featherweight contender Robinson Castellanos (20-10, 13KOs) is hoping to get the opportunity to face WBC featherweight champion Jhonny Gonzalez (57-8, 48KOs) in the near future. Castellanos was the WBC's silver champion and the mandatory challenger to Gonzalez, but saw his standing go down the drain when he was stopped in nine rounds by Rene Alvarado in February.
On Saturday night in Indio, Castellanos made a statement with a one-sided destruction of previously undefeated 23-0 slugger Ronny Rios, who was favored to win the contest. Gonzalez was in action last Saturday night in Los Mochis when he battered Jorge Arce for eleven rounds.
