Comments Thread For: McGuigan Urges Ricky Burns To Return To Lightweight

Former champion Barry McGuigan has urged ex-two division beltholder Ricky Burns (34-4-1, 11KOs) to return to the lightweight limit of 135-pounds. Last Saturday night in Leeds, Burns made his junior welterweight debut.

After a strong first round where he scored a knockdown of French boxer Alexandre Lepelley, Burns struggled at time sand he looked very ordinary. He snapped a two fight losing streak with an eight round unanimous decision. After the fight, Burns admitted that it might best for is career to return to 135.

      2013 happened. That's what happened.

Gonzalez gave him a beating before quitting on the stool and even if he toughed out the last 3 rounds without dropping he would of won by a round. Beltran gave him an even bigger beating and cracked his jaw whilst getting robbed.

People don't understand how bad he was beaten in those two fights.

The hometown decision against Beltran only set Burns up for another bad beating by Crawford. Bad decisions hurt the winner too, after he believes the lying judges, he thinks he is better than he really is. Robbing Beltran only brought Burns misery. He should have took a loss and stepped back in competition, now every one thinks he's shot and nobody fears Burns even with his hometown mentality.
