Comments Thread For: Jhonny Gonzalez-Jorge Arce Early Fight Results

The televised opener featured a pair of spirited Jr. Lightweights. What it didn’t feature was a winner. For eight rounds, 24-year old Edgar Monarrez (18-2-1, 12 KO), 130, of Torreon, Coahuila de Zaragoza, Mexico, and 21-year old Adrian Young (19-1-2, 15 KO), 130, of Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico, lit into each other without figuring out who was the better man. Following the bout, the ring announcer failed to read the scores and simply announced a draw.

The card was broadcast in the US on BeIn Espanol, promoted by Zanfer and Promociones del Pueblo. [Click Here To Read More]

Estrella tired himself. He should have KOd Caballero who is not the fighter he once was.

It says Arce was attempting to win a 5th title. Problem is he was not even remotely attempting. This is one of the purest examples of a fighter who before the fight or very quickly after the fight started was 100% committed to a payday and going 12 rounds and having zero interest in winning. It would be one thing if he came in with the wrong plan but that's not the case of he would have changed when nothing he did worked. He should have never taken this fight if he had no self belief or any intentions of trying to win.

True. The warrior didn't show up last night. He was careful and probably thinking he could change the course of the fight with only one shot (since Jhonny has reported issues with his chin). Most likely what happened is that Arce felt the power of Gonzales and he knew that standing toe to toe would end the fight sooner. Anyway, Arce was given the opportunity of fighting for a 6th title (the guy was in a total of 27 title fights), collected his check and I hope he finally retires.
