Comments Thread For: Felix Verdejo Pleased With Progression, Career Pace

Felix Verdejo seems to have it all so far as a professional prizefighter.

Charisma, the adoration of Puerto-Rican fight fans, and talent that is making him a can’t-miss prospect who could become a world champion.

Not to mention he is only 21 years of age.

It all may be a piece of cake for Verdejo, but he is the first to tell you that the undefeated record and the weight of being a popular, young fighter are not easy. He takes it in stride, as one bad outing or a loss could open the door for criticism. [Click Here To Read More]

he says he doesn't mind the pace and he shouldn't,time is on his side and he should take his time,he only has 14 fights,he should keep fighting the type of fighters he has been facing, like he says with different sytles which is good, and keep it up until like 20 fights, then start facing guys ranked like 15-20,maybe face ex champions or guys who have faced champions and I think that gives you some experience,to me a guy should start facing top ten fighters after 25 fights and a world title shot at 30 fights,no need to rush these guys

I agree, there is no need to rush. The guy is only 21. Let him keep learning and refining himself against different styles.

Getting rushed is one thing, getting pampered is another. Verdejo will beat this guy, Pedraza softened him up. No guts, no glory. Everybody knows, that's why I hear, "he's still learning", but feel he's in easy. Beating overmatched opposition forever doesn't work, ask Gary Russell.

He is being brought along just fine, let him get his feet wet with different styles, get some rounds and step up a level soon, ex champions etc.

What channel is his fight on tonight? UniMas?

of course he's in easy,he only has 14 fights, like I said after 20 fights he should be facing guys in top 15-20 or guys who have faced ex champions or champions, those will be the ones who will prepare him for a title, after about 25 fights it should be top ten fighters,i don't think he's being pampered,he's being prepared for a title down the line,he's going at it the right way,of course if he gets nothing but opponents like the ones he has now when he has like 22,23 fights i'd say he's being pampered and not good for his career
