Kiel, Germany - British middleweight Matthew Macklin (31-5) opened Sauerland Eventīs big show at the Sparkassen Arena with a hardfought eight round majority decision over Spainīs Jose Yebes (12-6-1). It was scored 77-75 twice and 76-76. Macklin was not in top shape and struggled against a tough but luckily for Matthew light-punching opponent. Yebes kept coming and Macklin faded in the later rounds. In the final round both went all out for a strong finish with Macklinīs heavier punch making the difference.

The report I read on twitter was that Macklin got better as the fight went on, not the other way around.

Macklin looks so average now. It's looking like his few good performances were more an aberration.
