Comments Thread For: Frank Warren Talks BoxNation's Rise, Jabs Hearn, More

A big happy birthday to BoxNation who've defied the doubters and staved off a few initial teething problems to celebrate its third anniversary this weekend.

Several within the fight industry forecast a short life span for the boxing only subscription channel and were penning my ring obituary when I opted to go solo and launch the Channel of Champions in September 2011.

Following productive relationships with ITV and Sky Sports, I saw a need to innovate when the latter opted to significantly cull its boxing operation, following two flawed and unsuccessful pay-per-view ventures featuring David Haye, firstly against Audley Harrison and then Wladimir Klitschko.

Boxing is pretty **** at the moment. Doesn't really get going good until November.
Yes, t'has been a poor year, especially compared to 2013. That was a great year. Too many mismatches and heavy favourite-big underdog fights this year.
As usual, boxing gives the fans what they want for a short while, then starts taking the piss.
In the midst of all this FW can be clearly seen giving himself a hefty pat on the back!
To be fair to Frank though, BoxNation has done way more for boxing fans in the UK than those idiots at Sky have.
'Camp Adam' Smith and co. would rather televise crap domestic bills full of mismatches and interview drag artists than they would invest in real fights.
At least Warren is bringing us that.
BoxNation is great for boxing fans.

BoxNation is good but it has a side effect. A niche sport becomes more niche. It is the same as the PPV effect. Fewer fans will see the fights, and fewer new fans will arise. There needs to be either free hours or some kind of outreach in the UK because every year that passes it seems fewer of my peers know anything about boxing at all.

On a slightly different note, I'm a bit bored of Frank Warren tooting his own horn. He does it all the time. It's a bit boring to hear Frank Warren wax lyrical about Frank Warren. We get it, you love yourself and your achievements. Every article seems to be FW acknowledging what a great thing FW has done, whether it is back a fighter, a promotional venture, or just generally having an awesome rarely-wrong opinion. Dude, you should let other people do that. It doesn't mean much coming from you about you.
