Comments Thread For: 30-Day Weights: Golovkin 165 Lb, Rubio 174.5 Lb.

Gennady Golovkin and Marco Antonio Rubio are both well within schedule to make weight ahead of their middleweight title fight showdown, October 18 at StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Both fighters were required to check in at the 30-day mark, as per the terms of the World Boxing Council (WBC), as Rubio is the organization's recognized interim titlist. Golovkin tipped the scales at 165 lb; Rubio checked in at 174.5 lb.

The maximum limit for the 30-day point is 176 lb., or 10% over the limit of the weight class for which the title is at stake. [Click Here To Read More]

Golovkin is always in shape. 30 days before the fight and Triple G is just 5 pounds away. Most fighters tend to be 5 pounds away 3-4 days before the fight.

As far as Rubio goes, I knew he would be significantly heavier. I was looking at his training videos and the guy is BIG, very wide.

This should be a great fight for the 2 rounds that it will last. Rubio will be hurt badly.

But he's quite a small middleweight, so that would be a good reason.

I wonder how healthy Golovkin would be at 154, he makes 160 easily

He is a small mw. Bitter Andre Ward fans don't wanna hear that though.

GGG is always in good shape which allows him to use camp to really figure out the opponent and plan his attack rather than just cutting weight.
