Comments Thread For: Roach Warns Algieri: Talk All You Want, It Won't Help!

Freddie Roach, trainer of WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38KOs), is not threatened by the growing confidence of their next opponent, undefeated WBO 140-pound champion Chris Algieri (20-0, 8KOs). The fight is set for November 22nd at the Venetian in Macau, China.

In an earlier article on BoxingScene.com, Algieri promised to enter the ring with the mindset of dominating Pacquiao from the first bell and even opened the door for a victory by knockout.

When Roach disses someone because he "talks much". How ironic...
But anyway I don't know that the fuck is this clown's problem again. Algieri is really just positively confident, he wants to win, dominate etc... He didn't even diss Pacquiao.

Albieri fights better than Bradley and way better than Rios. If pacquiao has'nt slid back to far from his PED's. He is losing this fight.

This is all hype. Algeri is not a talker, but Arum (and HBO) needs him to be a talker. Manny is not gonna be "bad cop," so Algeri has to be the one to hype the fight. Unfortunately, nice guys don't sell. The college graduate vs. the Filipino version of MLK, doesn't sell fights. Someone has to be that guy. This is the formula started by a former professional wrestler, perfected by Muhammad Ali, and is responsible for the change from Pretty Boy Floyd to "Money" Mayweather. It's like negative political ads, everyone says they hate them, but statistics show, "they work." The guy even said "if and when..." he didn't go in on Manny. Freddie knows that, but his job is to strir the pot.

I dont think he fights better than Bradley. He would have possibly 4 or 5 loses if he attempted to duplicate Bradley's resume.

Algieri has limited power but Roach's comment sounds eerily similar to the classic one made before Marquez 4.

                  Never underestimate your opponent.
