  • Comments Thread For: Orlando Salido: Now I'm Going To Push Even Harder

By Jake Donovan - Orlando Salido celebrated his 18th anniversary as a prizefighter by becoming one of two fighters to ever hang a loss on Vasyl Lomachenko as an amateur or a pro.

The feat came with an asterisk: Salido showed up well over the contracted limit for what was supposed to be a featherweight title fight, thus forced to give up his belt at the scales. While the win extended his win streak, the title he vacated is now around Lomachenko’s waist, having won the crown in a walkover versus Gary Russell this past June.

“Losing the belt by not making weight was a letdown,” Salido admits of the events leading up to their fight this past March, in which he won a split decision in their non-title fight. “My body just wouldn’t give in any more and lose any more weight. It became a matter of whether I wanted to defend my title or win the fight. I wanted to still win, though it bothered me that I had to give up the title.” [Click Here To Read More]

Orlando Salido gave Vasyl Lomachenko a real lesson in the sport of prize-fighting. He pulled every dirty trick he could and won a split decision. I would love a rematch but I think Lomachenko would destroy him if that happened. Salido should look at a move to 135lbs and a fight with someone like Hank Lundy or Dierry Jean, very winnable fights.

I was thinking the same. Height wise he would still be fine at super feather or lightweight

Someone like Salido is a true role model considering the start he had to his pro career: 11-7-2.

I'm stoked that 'Siri' is still around. :box2: I've loved watching all his fights since the Gamboa loss, and even then he managed to drop him. The way he destroyed Lopez twice provided me some of my favourite moments in boxing, as well as getting rid of Cruz. And I like Lomachenko as much as anyone else, but I found it hilarious as to how badly he was taught a lesson in pro filthiness.

Not much for Salido to do at 130, though. A rematch with Mikey would be cool, but he seems headed to 135 soon. Then again... imagine Salido-Figueroa at 135.
