Comments Thread For: Algieri: I Have Nothing To Prove Against Provodnikov

NEW YORK – The last thing on Chris Algieri’s mind as the biggest fight of his career approaches is a rematch against the man he beat to earn it.

Aligieri’s split-decision victory over Russia’s Ruslan Provodnikov was considered controversial. Algieri’s focus still remains squarely on preparing to upset Manny Pacquiao in their HBO Pay-Per-view main event Nov. 22 in Macau, China, and pursuing more megafights thereafter.

Damn right, he handled Robotnikov like a boss after the first 2 rounds. Won't help him against Pac, though. It'll be all like, straight-left-VHOOOM and he's on his ass repeatedly.

If Algieri "clearly" won, he wouldn't have to prove anything. A champion shouldn't lose his belt that way.

I love Chris response, it shows he is smart.

He will not make the same ****** mistakes Pac made when he kept rematching juan Manuel Marquez cry baby azz and than JMM gets buff and peddd up and knocks him out cold.

Pac should have never gave Marquez a 4th rematch.

Why give a rematch to a guy who is more dangerous than Manny? Chris knows business and he knows Ruslan is more risky in a rematch than Manny.

He could ruin his flow with ruslan rematch, after he beats Manny he has a rematch with Manny or better fights with Bradley or Marquez who wants a 4th title and wont rematch JMM.

Honestly, I thought he fairly clearly handled Provodnikov after the first round or two. He outworked and outlanded Ruslan the rest of the way.

if he didn't give JMM a 4th fight he had to choose between 2 options-Floyd @147 or Cotto @154. Its clear why he chose JMM (after saying " I have nothing more to prove with JMM") and also clear why he said "NO" to both he and JMM taking OST.

I don't see why algieri would go backwards and fight ruslan again. Once many destroys him he can fight the back at JWW. Hopefully he can fight Broner so I can get honest opinions about Algieirei from pac fans like yourself.

The win against Ruslan was pretty clear. I like both of these guys a lot, but Ruslan just wasn't effective after those two knockdowns. The only way I'm going to score a round for you in which you are being outlanded and outworked by quite a bit, is if the few punches you land are really hurting your opponent. After round one, he wasn't hurting Chris with what few punches he was landing.

My hope is that Ruslan improves as a boxer and wins several big, significant fights, and somewhere down the line he and Algieri meet in the ring again.

Ruslan beat the snot out of American pretty boy Algieri.

I love how when it's a Yank all the revisionist history about the fight comes in and suddenly Algieri "clearly' won" and all this ridiculous Yankee horse****.

                  Clear? Yeah, clear as mud.

Chris's ego sounds really inflated already. He's got a long fall coming up shortly. He's on a roller-coaster ride already headed straight downhill.

Algieri did win, the knockdowns made it closer.
