Comments Thread For: Andre Berto Eager: Now It's My Time To Get Mine!

It was an early birthday present for Andre Berto in the opening bout on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING, with the former welterweight world champion bouncing back from a lengthy layoff and shoulder surgery with a 10-round unanimous decision victory over Steve Upsher. The bout was scored 99-91 by all three judges.

Berto, who turns 31 on Sunday, showed no lingering signs of discomfort following after nearly 14 months out of the ring after suffering a shoulder injury in July, 2013 against Jesus Soto Karass.

That rematch with Ortiz would be the best move for Berto as of now!

Berto really shouldn't be in the ring with anyone top 10 at welterweight. He'll get hurt.

Looked like the same old Berto to me. He walked on to shots, had no head movement, and was grabbing and holding on more than one occasion after a solid blow. Every time Upsher bit down on his gumshield and threw, it looked like he got to Berto - fortunately for Andre it was only once every couple of rounds.

Until he learns he can't be stationary in the pocket, he's going to suffer this. Unfortunately I think it indicates that Virgil Hunter is overrated because Berto showed no signs of the kind of defensive movement required. He still thinks he can dodge bullets.

Berto has been and always will be an overrated hype job. I wouldn't even watch a Berto fight at this point. He's irrelevant and is just fighting for a check. I don't look at boxing as entertainment, I look at it as a sport. If you aren't competitive in the sport, then you are a waste of time.

I heard someone want to see Berto and Vic Ortiz, the rematch? Why? You just enjoy watching two guys slug it out? I'd rather see high quality boxing from two relevant opponents than a slug fest between two amateurs.

I guess you don't like slug fest's & just enjoy "high quality boxing" matches between two "relevant" opponents.

The last time these guys shared the ring, they created the fight of the year. Both of them are shot, career wise it wouldn't be a bad idea for them to go at it again... that's all I said. We might end up getting a slugfest like their first fight... But that stuff don't interest you..

They need to get Berto the biggest money fight available at this moment he's too much of a risk to lose to spend time building him back up.

The only thing Berto will get is another "L". I didn't see anything last night to say he'll be competitive against any boxer at the top.
