Comments Thread For: Roy Jones Jr. Battles Hani Atiyo on Sep. 26 in Krasnodar

Former four-division multi-title world champion Roy Jones Jr. (58-8, 41 KOs) continues his de facto international farewell tour on September 26 in Krasnodar, Russia. The American icon will take on Hani “The Egyptian Hurricane” Atiyo (14-2, 10 KOs) – it’s not yet clear if his WBU title will be at stake in this fight.

Jones, 45, was last seen in the ring in July in Riga, Latvia, scoring his first stoppage win since 2009 against British veteran Courtney Fry. Atiyo, a reigning Egyptian light heavyweight champion has never fought outside of Africa, losing twice on a kayo to Ugandan veteran Joey Vegas. The show will be promoted by Kirill Pchelnikov.

Even though Roy looked sensational stoppping the legendary Courtney Fry, let's face it, Fry was past his best. This could be a very tough fight for Roy. I'd like to see him have a few tune ups before taking on the likes of Hani Atiyo. Both teams should let such an event naturally build and by late 2015/early 2016 this fight could be massive.

I sometimes feel fighters at such an age need to be protected from themselves when they choose to fight. Hopkins is an exception though.

          Don;t get hurt Roy!
