Comments Thread For: Freddie Roach To Algieri: This is a Fight, Not a Marathon

Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach says he is hoping that Chris Algieri comes to fight, and not to run, when he faces WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao on November 22nd at the Venetian in Macao, China.

Back in June, Algieri (20-0, 8 KOs) won a twelve round split decision over Ruslan Provodnikov at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Roach, who also trains Provodnikov, felt his fighter did enough to win, because he also felt Algieri was not being effective and running around the ring for most of the rounds. Now with the opportunity to get revenge, Roach doesn't want a fight where Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) is chasing after Algieri for twelve rounds.

Roach is such a clown. Then why take the fight if you think he's such a *****? Why not challenge yourselves by fighting top competition. The guy has zero integrity.

Precisely, there is a thin line between "boxing beautifully" and running. This is a fight, this is boxing. Algieri certainly pushes the brink of boxing to running. If you can't fight, GTFOOH! No one ever beat Pacquiao running!

I dont like this fight basically because its on ppv but acknowledge the fact that this style is all wrong for pacquaio..this. fight reminds me so much of the morales/raheem fight where i picked raheem to pull off the upset...algieri is pacquiaos zahir raheem right here.

Running has it's definition in the ring and Algieri doesn't do that. Algieri punches whilst on the move, he knows how to box.

So it's running when you're moving and both throwing and landing more punches than your opponent? So a guy with no power should stand and trade with a bigger puncher? Hope Algieri pulls it off by 'running' for the whole 12 rounds.

Freddie should probably teach his fighters how to cut off the ring.
