Comments Thread For: Sulaiman: Too Many Organizations, Too Many Titles

The president of the World Boxing Council (WBC), Mauricio Sulaiman, says the sport of boxing is under threat because there are too many sanctioning bodies, too many titles and other combat sports, like Mixed Martial Arts, are continuing to gain new fans.

Sulaiman says the only way to fix things is for the rival sanctioning bodies to work together.

The WBA has once again come under fire for allowing multiple champions within the same division. For examples, at 160-pounds there are three boxers who hold various forms of the WBA middleweight title. In other divisions there are at least two fighters who claims to be the WBA champion.

WBA is a complete joke, so is sulaiman. I wonder if he sees the irony in his statement.

The WBC has more belts than anyone. I'll give them credit for allowing Golovkin to fight for their mandatory at middleweight, but they need to get rid of their fifteen belts before they speak on there being too many belts.

          No shit Sherlock

I bet he will want to have only one title, and guess what title that would be?

If we don't get a boxing league or a FIBA/FIFA type organization this vicious cycle will continue. Lots of BS titles, robberies and BS fights going on!

Having only one world champion in each weight class would be great for boxing. It would be the best thing these alphabet soup organizations could do for the sport.

While the dude isn't saying anything that probably everyone doesn't already know, he's right. I can't even remember the last time I gave a ***** about who had a belt and who became champion/lost championship status.
Everyone and their mother has a belt these days. I only watch boxing mainly for the matchups knowing the fighters and their styles but the belts are just a side game that I don't give a ***** about.
