  • Comments Thread For: Ricky Burns Hungry To Win a World Title at 140

Ricky Burns is aiming to win a world title at a third weight, according to his manager Alex Morrison.

The former WBO super featherweight and lightweight champion is stepping up to light-welterweight after losing two fights in a row.

The 31-year-old Coatbridge fighter is set to make his comeback from defeat against Dejan Zlaticanin when he takes to the ring in Leeds on October 4, and Morrison believes he will return a better boxer with the extra weight.

Yep. He had a good run and has been really fun to watch but it's over now.

I'm not curious of Burns and I would be surprised if anybody would be. He was clearly beaten by Crawford, after that he has beaten by Zlaticanin and even before the Crawford fight he didn't win agains Beltran, honestly he was defeated there as well. So he has 2-3 defeat in a row, he is clearly done. Who the hell cares about Burns anymore? This weightclass change is totally senseless.

Not to mention Gonzalez was giving him a lesson before he quit. I like Burns, a nice guy who's done very well. Hes not a puncher, loses a height advantage at 140, boxing has went backwards since breaking his jaw...I can't see this ending well.

Dont know what to believe anymore, his performances against katsidis and mitchell were worthy of world class!
But since the mitchell fight he hasnt looked good at all for 4 fights, if he has struggled to make weight for his last 3 fights, why not move up sooner!

It's tricky to comment on this. Ricky is like 5'10 or 5'11. I can't imagine being able to make the lightweight limit at that weight. But unless he REALLY turned around at 140 there's really not much left. I mean Crawford is going to 140 as well. A potential Broner match up may be in the works since they missed the chance when Broner moved up. But tbh I can't see him beating Broner now

He always had a size advantage at 135, he loses that and his power would be non-existent. Can't see him being successful at 140, but good luck to him.
