Bronx-based super welterweight Steve Martinez has been named as the opponent of choice for unbeaten prospect Chris Pearson. The bout will take place on August 30 at Palms Casino in Las Vegas, airing live in a special Saturday edition of Showtime's 'Shobox' series.
The announcement was a bit of a surprise given Pearson's last performance, struggling to a split decision win over Lanardo Tyner this past February. Three of Pearson's last four bouts have aired on Shobox.
Martinez (15-1, 12KOs) comes in riding a four-fight win streak following the lone loss of his career, a split decision defeat versus Denis Douglin in their closely contested Jan. '12 affair.
The 24-year old took the loss in stride, having since become an integral part of the ongoing 'Brooklyn Brawl' boxing series presented by fighter-turned-promter Dmitriy Salita.
"Steven Martinez is a product of the Brooklyn Brawl series and as a result of consecutive victories, in February and then again in May, on Star of David cards, he's moving up the ranks," Salita noted. [Click Here To Read More]
