Comments Thread For: Duva: No Reservations About Kovalev Facing Hopkins

Bernard Hopkins has derailed young fighters before, such as with his win over Kelly Pavlik nearly six years. Hopkins, now 49, will be facing fellow light heavyweight titleholder Sergey Kovalev this fall, and Kovalev’s promoter said that fighters and promoters shouldn’t have concerns about taking defeats in challenging fights.

Credit to Hopkins for taking the fight. Don't see how he plans on winning this fight but i'm sure it'll be creative. If Kovalev fights him big like Dawson did Hopkins could easily find himself in trouble. It's crazy to say about a fight between men 18 years of age apart a toss up, but it is.

Kovalev is not a Top Rank fighter. There is no issues with GBP and the other promoters.

Why in the world do people keep bringing up Pavlik? Why is that the comparison people are going with?

Pavlik was a middleweight dragged up to 170. Kovalev is a LHW. They don't fight alike. What's the comparison? That they're both white?

Younger come-forward fighters with power I guess, supposed to get Hopkins out of there.

Actually their fighting styles aren't too different. Heavily reliant on power with little skill to back it up. In fact I would say pavlik is the more skilled fighter with the less power. In this fight it's all about kovalevs power. He has no chance in a boxing contest. Either a knockout or he has to have enough power to keep hop on the move and not boxing. Otherwise he has no chance imo. Thing is bhop has an excellent chin. One of the best in his era. It's a hard fight for kovalev tbh. If he doesn't get him out of there early it's gonna be dirty and messy, just the way the alien likes it.

Good interview from Duva, Shes right there's no need to fear defeat as a top fighter, just have to fight the other best fighters to see who comes out on top.

B-Hop opened up at +275 against Pavlik. It's six years later and he's fighting a prime pressure-puncher who isn't coming up in weight.

He opened up against Tarver at +225, against Dawson at +300, against Cloud at +270.
