A super bantamweight title eliminator has been ordered by the World Boxing Council (WBC) between Hugo Ruiz and Andres Gutierrez, BoxingScene.com was informed Tuesday morning.

The respective camps for the aforementioned fighters have 30 days to negotiate terms for a forthcoming fight, or will otherwise be subject to a purse bid hearing slated for August 25 in Mexico City.

Gutierrez fights under the Canelo Promotions banner; Ruiz is represented by Promociones del Pueblo. Both are regulars on Mexican network giant Televisa.

Exactly. Santa Cruz has an optional defense coming up, which gives time to establish a mandatory challenger. Even once that happens, the WBC more often than not grants exception to allow unification bouts, almost always with the condition that the mandatory is satisfied in the very next bout.

LSC-Rigo can still happen before this fight. Even at that, Gutierrez is a red-hot contender, and Ruiz is hardly a chump. Not sure why people are sour on this news.

I understand your point but Leo already said he was ready for Rigo creating a hype for a possible fight on Sep 13th, which is what fans are demanding at this moment,, but I also understand he will try to do his optional defense against a TBA yet to be announced and then fight one of this cab drivers as an easier way to keep avoiding the real threat at 122.

I am all for defending my countrymen but I will never stand behind bs. I have always liked LSC but I have always stated his ducking ways.. smh. Anyway Ruiz vs Gutierrez is a fight any Mexican fan that follows the sport closely would be drooling over. Ruiz is a brutal KO puncher(the stats are wrong on the main article) I believe he only has 3 or 4 fights that went the distance. I love both fighters and have been raving over Jaguarcito for ages but I'm aware Cuatito is no slouch and is a massive puncher. Honestly, who cares who wins.. I love both fighters and I know this fight will be a damn war. I suggest you guys keep an eye out for this one, it won't disappoint. Big step up for Gutierrez and huge opportunity for Ruiz.
