Comments Thread For: Hammer-Mathis Outcome Continues To Cause a Stir

The Christina Hammer vs Ann Sophie Mathis fight, from Saturday night in Dessau, went ahead with two titles at stake: the vacant WBO super welterweight title and the WBFed title held by Mathis.

As it was, Hammer won on a fifth round disqualification when Mathis was ruled out after what was called illegal punches to the back of Hammer´s head. [Click Here To Read More]

This + the Stieglitz fight. That's not a card to be proud of for the Germans.

The last punch Mathis threw was a borderline rabbit punch.

The Germans who know about boxing are definitely not proud about that.

I live and Germany and watched the card yesterday.
To stop the Stieglitz vs. Khomitsky fight because they removed tape from a glove to retape it. Come on...
The decision in Hammer vs. Mathis was a disgrace. The same referee (Manfred Küchler) was the ref for Petkovic vs. Salif. He DQ'd Salif for low blows which were not low. It was so bad, that he got suspended for one year.

It was on the ear, which is legal.

                It was disgraceful.

A visiting boxer loses by TKO for not having enough tape in his corner just after he floored the local favorite, which wasn't counted of course, and another house fighter wins by DQ for getting knocked out by a punch to the ear. That's home cooking for you...

Yes. In both cases there was some horrible officiating.
