  • Comments Thread For: Golovkin Ready For The First Big Test of His Career

By Francisco Salazar - Gennady Golovkin has it pretty good, doesn't he?

He fights on a premium network, has a growing fan base, and is slowly emerging as one of the top fighters and draws in boxing.

Whether it is his devastating power that paralyzes his opponents or his infectious smile that draws people to him, the Kazakh-born Golovkin has been able to balance confidence and humbleness really well.

While there are those who believe Daniel Geale is a small obstacle in the way of more-lucrative fights, Golovkin knows the game all too well. He may be the favorite, but the last thing Golovkin is doing is overlooking a worthy challenger.

Golovkin will face Geale in a 12 round bout at Madison Square Garden in New York City, N.Y. on Saturday night. The bout, along with the heavyweight showdown between Bryant Jennings and Mike Perez, will be televised live on HBO at 9:30PM ET/ 6:30PM PT.

Golovkin was already a world champion when he first fought on American soil almost two years ago. It was not so much that he defeated Grergorz Proksa that night, but in the manner of how he dominated and brokee down a modest opponent. [Click Here To Read More]

    Golovkin understands the situation

    He's fully focused on Geale

THIS is exactly what GGG meant when he said the "too much for me" comment in his 5th language the other day that sparked that 30 page thread:

"I'm not ducking him (Ward). My focus is on Daniel Geale. It's very important to me."

      Now he worded it properly

it scares me that he's sparring with Cruiserweights and heavyweights. Surely thats a quick way to shorten GGGs career

Geale is a test on paper, but I don't think he'll be much of one in the ring. I hope I'm wrong.

Big test?? I want him to do well but the hype is absurd when you look at who he's fought and continues to fight. He's admitted that he's not ready for Ward, and I wouldn't expect him to take that step, but there's several top guys willing to fight him.

And after GGG demolishes this kid he will be another bum on his record to all his haters. There's only one fight at 160 that matters and that's GGG vs Quillen. Cotto is not a middleweight, he beat an old, injured Sergio and won't be facing anyone other then Canelo or Floyd at 155+.
Ward can move up and fight Kovalev right? But he won't....so he's ducking just the same...

I find it funny when people mention ward, how long has ward been at 168? What's left for ward at 168? Absolutely nothing but let me get this straight, he's being ducked by someone at 160 who wants to fight the champions there and establish himself. Yet Ward himself won't put on 7 pounds and take on Kovalev (HBO), Hopkins (no ties to any particular network for how long?), but yeah he'll fight chad dawson because big bad chad came down in weight. Fans are quick to point out "all the ducking happening to ward" yet won't call him a duck for not budging either..175lbs awaits you Mr. Ward...
