  • Comments Thread For: Arum on Pacquiao-Algieri Promotion, Eyes Cotto-Canelo

Bob Arum said Tuesday he plans to promote Chris Algieri as "the modern-day Gene Tunney" when Algieri meets Manny Pacquiao on Nov. 22, in Macau.

First, the Top Rank chief might have to remind people who Tunney was.

Tunney was heavyweight champion from 1926-28 and was most famous for two victories over Jack Dempsey, one of which came in the "Long Count" fight of 1927. Beyond that, Tunney was a friend of playwright George Bernard Shaw and delivered lectures on William Shakespeare at Yale.

That's all this Pac/Algieri fight is... a dick pump to see if China can hold PPV's or not.... if so... dear god... they're gonna have Shiming and maybe Tso if he wins a title.

Just don't charge us... because I wouldn't pay you with Jizz

Explain to me why Cotto/Canelo has to happen next May? I understand the thinking BUT isn't Floyd still working with Golden Boy? Why would they want to piss him off and end that? They all know thats his date. Just make the damn fight NOW.

Because no matter who Floyd fights it won't bring in bigger numbers then cotto Canelo unless he fights PAC and that fight is not happening plus Canelo is Mexican naturally that should be his date

if GB makes this move that will be the end of them working with floyd. you can bet that. it'll also be the end of GB and Haymon working together.

              1. why make it in December...at the end of the year after all those other PPVs drained this PPV of potential buys
              2. Mexican Holiday.....Mex/PR rivalry...makes too much sense

i'd like to watch it sooner, but pretty obvious they won't do it

Nice job of taking the sting of the Pac-Aligeri garbage by throwing in some canelo vs cotto potpourri Knob-Barum.
