Comments Thread For: De La Hoya Sees Cotto, Kirkland For Canelo's Future

Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya is looking at some very big options for Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (43-1-1, 31KOs) - if the Mexican superstar defeats WBA 'regular' junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara (19-1-2, 12KOs) on Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Canelo is already booked to return in the fall. A fight with Miguel Cotto, returning in December, is unlikely, but James Kirkland (32-1, 28KOs) could be a possibility, says De La Hoya.

De La Hoya should really just let Canelo focus on this Saturday's fights right now and not publicly discuss possible future opponents until after the fight.

Kirkland hasn't fought in ore than 4 months, I doubt he in any heavy training...regardless of his power he has stamina & virtually no defense...Alvarez will tko him...Cotto won't happen this year...

Oscar, warning, don't put Canelo in with Kirkland!!! Demetrius Andrade would be a good opponent. Quillen would be a good opponent. Kirkland will probably KO Canelo like he did Angulo. Kirkland loss cool points with me because I read he turned down a bout with Andrade, and now Andrade has a belt, and he doesn't. Therefore he should be the odd man out. However, if Oscar puts Canelo in there with Kirkland, he might regret it.

He did, and he's now promoted by SMS Entertainment (50 Cents). He would love nothing more than to kill Oscar's Golden Boy.

Cindanelo really wants to be a star with a large fan base so he can get paid. The kid honestly hasn't fought top level opponents and anyone that is a threat will get robbed due to the money that can be paid to buy a victory for this kid.......

On the record i am A James Kirkland fan, but he is too inactive right now, against someone like Canelo or Lara you have to have your timing down. Demetrius Andrade is a tough fight also, but Andrade gets hit flush with right hands, he slips most of them but against thses murderous punchers you gotta be on that defensive A game...people seem to forget that Canelo gets those combo's off - and as far as Oscar talking he ia just playing the mind games with Lara's camp - we see the trash talk is already getting to Canelo so he had to get under Lara's skin - we know a Lara rebuttle is only minutes away... smart smart smart - 10% physical / 90% mental..
