Comments Thread For: Hearn: Burns Goes To 140 on 9/13, Harrison Possible

Promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sports says former lightweight champion Ricky Burns (36-4-1, 11KOs) will make his junior welterweight debut on a September 13th card in Manchester. Last month Burns lost for the second consecutive time, with a shocking decision loss to unknown Dejan Dzlaticanin. Burns has struggled in several of his recent fights at 135.

If Burns wins in September, Hearn would love to make a big showdown in Scotland between Burns and domestic rival Scott Harrison (27-3-2, 15KOs).

Hearn has seen the success of Froch v Groves and decided big domestic fights are the way forward.

    Cleverly v Bellew
    Burns v Harrison
    Quigg v Frampton
    Froch v DeGale
    Khan v Brook

140 is too heavy, Manchester isnt far enough away, and Harrison is the wrong opponent. Burn is getting beat by outsiders with different styles, Harrison is a familiar style, and smaller by far at 140. Instead of taking Burn somewhere to learn, they are taking him somewhere to escape, hide. Might as well just lock the gym doors and save the trip. I say, head for Vegas, work out with the Money team, or L.A. and Roach, Oxnard and Garcia. Really get away, too far to go home on a whim, so far he's forced to learn.

          Burns is a shot fighter

Burns is a shot fighter; at 140 he risks a serious brain injury against top 10 level opponents. What is wrong with Hearn and Sims? This is sad to hear. Money blurs his whole teams sense of care and duty.

Amir Khan looks to be stronger at 147 because of having boxed at the wrong weight for 2 years. I hope Ricky proves me wrong but I fear its curtains due to money blindness.
